Her tragic murder by a shooter triggered the outpouring of emotions within Latino communities that is comparable to those who reacted to the death of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's. Selena was a hugely popular Latino artist across North America. Her music transcended cultural barriers and touched the hearts of youngsters as well as older adults. Selena was a hot glamorous performer on stage who was sometimes known as her as the Latina Madonna. On stage, Selena was a strong role model as she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigning.
